Teaching in Helambu Valley, Nepal · 17 May 2019

We aim to provide high quality education for children in Indian, Nepali and Tanzanian communities; to enable livelihood opportunities within these communities; and to motivate the children to progress as far as possible with their education and contribute back to their communities

Story

This summer 2019, I'll be teaching in a rural school in the Helambu valley, Nepal, which was heavily struck by the 2015 earthquake. 100% of the money I raise will go directly to the local school I’ll be working with. I really believe that this is a very honest, direct way of making a big impact and I hope you can share in my vision and provide your support.

The Charity I’ll be working with is a local NGO called HELP (Helambu Education and Livelihood Project). http://www.help-nepal.org

They work with approximately 90 schools in outlying villages, helping 10,000 children. The schools are extremely basic, receiving little or no government funding, and on top of this, the earthquake destroyed many school buildings. HELP works to improve the standard of education in these schools through the running of various community led projects which, amongst other things, includes providing school supplies, developing infrastructure and the international volunteering programme which I'm taking part in.

International volunteers like myself, have been proven to have a significant impact. As volunteers we bring a new teaching style which the teachers can adopt and has been shown to boost pupil interest and attendance. I will also be working with the teachers to improve their English and , if applicable, IT skills.

Mondo is about changing lives; like these girls who are housed in one of our Safe Hostels in Nepal. As well as building new schools in remote parts of the world we are committed to pioneering quality education, gender equality and livelihood programmes with local partners on the ground. Supporting our work will give you the opportunity to make positive difference to young people living in some of the poorest areas of our world.
