The Great North Swim · 9 June 2018

Sepsis Research FEAT funds vital research into sepsis and helps to raise awareness of sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by the body overreacting to infection. It kills around 50,000 people in the UK each year. Please support us today & help us in our mission to #stopsepsisnow.

Story

On the 9th of June 2018 I'm squeezing into my wetsuit and braving the icy depths of Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim. The goose pimple ratio will be high and the fear factor off the scale, as I attempt to swim a mile.
It’s no mean feat. Exactly a year before I was admitted to hospital with
neutropenic sepsis, a life threatening complication of the chemotherapy I undertook to treat breast cancer. I was sick, I was scared but I was lucky and came home to my wonderful family.
Unfortunately thousands of people die as a result of sepsis every year. A condition in which early detection is critical.

So I’m taking to the waves with my friends Fiona and Zoe as we
aim to raise money for some very special charities and celebrate being lucky enough that our worries are wetsuit chafe!!
