LAKES CHALLENGE 2012 · 17 August 2012

Francis House supports more than 600 families of children, teenagers and young adults with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. We need over £4.8 million in charitable donations each year to continue to provide our services. Thank you for your support.

Story

The Challenge  On 7 September 2012 a 4 man team will travel from south to north across the Lake District National Park by open water swimming and walking 47.5 km non-stop. They aim to complete the challenge inside 24 hours.  The team will start at the southern end of Lake Windermere and finish at the northern end of Ullswater.  Leg 1 is a 17 km open water relay swim covering the length of Windermere.  Leg 2 is a 17 km overland team Yomp through the night from Ambleside over the Kirkstone Pass to Glenridding at the southern end of Ullswater.  Leg 3 is back into the water at first light to swim the 13.5 km length of Ullswater, finishing at the northern end of the lake at Pooley Bridge.

The Team  The team consists of father and son Pete & Danny Ditchfield, from Urmston, Billy Coplin from Bolton and Adam Barker, also from Urmston.  Pete works in the defence industry, Billy owns an engineering business and Danny and Adam are sixth form students at Urmston Grammar.

The Objective  The objective is to raise funds to contribute as much money as possible to the unrelenting costs of running the inspirational children’s hospice – Francis House.  This wonderful place offers such a vital resource to those who need it and the Lakes Challenge is one of the many events which are needed to keep it running to the highest standard of care.
