Great Manchester Run 2017 · 28 May 2017 ·

L'Arche builds communities with people who have learning disabilities. Together with assistants, they live in ordinary houses, with choice in and access to work, therapy and local resources. The nine L'Arche communities in England, Scotland and Wales are founded on Christian values, also welcoming people of other faiths and none.

Story

Emily, David, Kevin, Naomi, Mark and Nem are taking on the Manchester 10k whilst Lydia and Isaac are taking part in the Manchester Junior Run on Sunday 28th May 2017. This is the 3rd year that some of us are doing this and we're excited and ready for the challenge!

We want to raise as much money as we can for L'Arche communities around the world, who just don't have some of the things we take for granted here in the UK. L'Arche in Haiti had to relocate after Hurricane Matthew left behind significant damage a few months ago; L'Arche in Chennai, India, faced severe flooding in the city following a cyclone and so are needing to rebuild walls and plant fruit and vegetable plants. Other communities such as L'Arche in Argentina and L'Arche Bangladesh are both looking for support to build a second house whereas L'Arche in Brazil are need to fundraise for basic necessities including food, medicines and clothing.

The International Federation of L'Arche Communities brings together 151 L'Arche communities of people with and without a learning disability in 37 different countries. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to L'Arche International who will make sure it goes directly to the L'Arche communities who most need it around the world. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
