Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm abseiling 100m down the Spinnaker Tower in Gunwharf Quays Portsmouth on Friday 18th April, so please support me and help to raise funds for DRWF.
I found out I have type 2 diabetes five years ago and became aware of the work of Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation a year ago quite by chance whilst browsing the Internet. I attended the Diabetes Wellness weekend and 15th Anniversary Ball in August 2013.
The ball was in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and after the Ball on the coach back to the Hotel in Hayling Island noted to DRWF Event Coordinator Lee Calladine how pretty the Spinnaker Tower was lit up in pink and that it would be a nice building to abseil.
Lee contacted me the next week and said that he could advise on how to set up an abseil. Shortly after I signed up and whilst quite petrified it seems to be appropriate as the Daughter of a Naval Commander to be abseiling in Portsmouth where I spent my formative years and in sight of HMS Victory the flagship of my Hero Lord Nelson, I hope this will install a little courage during my descent. I am being assisted in my preparation by colleagues in the University of Sussex Royal Naval Unit whose activities I support within the course of my work as Lead Event Co-Ordinator at the University of Sussex.
I hope that you will consider my abseil worthy of your sponsorship in order that we may assist the search for a cure for Diabetes.
