Samburu women and girls walk up to 12 miles or 6 hours, every day in search of water. Every 20 seconds, a child dies from preventable water-related disease. Wells save lives and result in kids going to school. Watch our video at https://vimeo.com/150817630 .

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Latham & Watkins' Royal Parks Half Marathon runners' JustGiving page, in support of the Samburu Project.

This year, twelve LW teammates will join over 16,000 runners in the 13.1 mile route through Central London, taking in the spectacular sites of the capital and beautiful Royal parks, starting and finishing in stunning Hyde Park.

This year, our team will be running in support of Latham's charity of the year, the Samburu Project, which provides wells to the villages of the Samburu people in Kenya.

Accessible clean water is of vital importance:

  • A local source of water allows villagers to grow crops and provide food to their families.
  • Diarrhoea is the leading cause of infant mortality among Samburu children. Access to clean water will drastically reduce this problem.
  •  Local sources of clean water free Samburu women and girls from the obligation to walk up to 123 miles each day to collect water, allowing them to pursue other activities such as attending school or engaging in micro-bussines or farming.

Again, thank you for visiting our page and please consider donating to our cause. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
