Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This December I will be will be embarking on a gruelling 3-day challenge in the Arctic Circle where we will face less than three hours of sunlight per day and temperatures getting as low as -30^oC. My intrepid team will be competing in a 35 km husky sled race, ice fishing, orienteering, fire building and a 25 km cross country Nordic ski.

Part of the challenge is to raise as much sponsorship as possible for the National Literacy Trust. The cost of the challenge is covered by the registration fee and Gift Aid, so every penny you donate will go directly to the charity to fund their vital work.

The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged children the literacy skills they need to succeed in life. Not being able to read, write or communicate well holds people back at every stage of their life. As a child they won't be able to succeed at school, as a young adult they will be locked out of the job market, and on becoming a parent they won't be able to support their child's learning.

The charity works in the UK’s poorest communities, where up to 40% of people have literacy problems.

Please dig deep and sponsor me. The money you give will have a lasting effect on the lives of the children, families and communities supported by the charity:

£30 - can help fund family literacy packs for parents with children on neo-natal wards, helping them to bond with their babies through reading.

£100 - or more can help set up more National Literacy Trust Hubs to create long-term change in areas of the UK where low levels of literacy are entrenched and intergenerational.

£150 – can help three volunteers to work with parents of young children, helping to develop their children’s literacy and communication skills.
