Story

Dry January.. so why am I doing it?

2 reasons..

1. My liver could probably do with a break.

2. On Tuesday 29th December 2020 our Dad suffered a serious heart attack. Following surgery, he’s doing well and on the road to recovery but this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the fast and effective service that he received from the Northwest Ambulance Service.

Our Dad was one of the lucky ones, but it’s essential that this service is there for the next person.

NWAS serve more than seven million people across approximately 5,400 square miles – the communities of Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Glossop (Derbyshire). They receive approximately 1.3 million 999 calls and respond to over a million emergency incidents each year.

On average it costs £233 to treat and deliver a patient to the emergency department. That’s aside from the outstanding job the NHS and heart specialist team do.

So, please give what you can.. no matter how small, every little given to charity helps NWAS continue with the hard work they are doing to provide life saving equipment, educating and saving lives.

Anyone who knows me will tell you I enjoy a wine on the weekend, it’s also my birthday later this month which makes it ‘interesting’. So for anyone who would like to send a card or gift please can I ask that you donate instead as this would mean so much more to me and so many others!

In the last year, the charity has funded the installation of more than 100 defibrillators in public places. Each defibrillator funded and installed increases the chances of survival for an out of hospital cardiac arrest from just 5% to over 75%, if used with effective CPR within the first four minutes of an arrest.

£1200 Provides a lifesaving defibrillator.

£30 Buys replacement pads for a lifesaving defibrillator.

£233 To treat and deliver a patient to A&E.

I know times are difficult guys but give what you can.. the price of a coffee? a beer?

Thank you for taking the time to read my story,

Kind regards,

Laura
