At Target Ovarian Cancer, we target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives. Stand together. Save lives.

Story

Ovarian cancer isn't talked about so much, and often goes undiagnosed until it's in the advanced stages due to symptoms (fatigue, bloating, lots of peeing, ovary twinges) being attributed to so many of the day-to-day conditions you just 'get on with'.

Just before Christmas 2014 my mum was sadly given the diagnosis and it really rocked our world. Without knowing much about this type of cancer, we had to quickly piece together the information available, and found the resources available through Target Ovarian Cancer to be a great support.

Target Ovarian Cancer is a charity committed to raising awareness of the disease so that it can be diagnosed at a much earlier stage, which in turn would increase survival rates massively. The charity continues to lobby the government to improve treatments across the country, and invests in testing to help change the future. This year I am committed to raising as much cash as I can to enable the great work to continue and ensure that other families can benefit from the support when needed most.

So far, I've completed: Nike 10k, 2 legs of a sprint plus triathlon, the Great North Run (half mara), a cycle to Paris from London, and am part way through training for the London Marathon with my deferred ballot place in 2016.

I had set myself a £1000 target because it can realistically fund several of the the following initiatives:
- £50 enables up to 200 people to learn about the symptoms of ovarian cancer
- £100 enables 200 GPs to update their knowledge of ovarian cancer
- £500 pays for 2 days of medical research into new treatments.

You've helped me smash that target and it's still growing. Please continue to help this cause by giving what you can. If you can't sponsor, please just do your bit to spread the word about the symptoms - it could save a life.

Thanks a million,

Big love,
Laura xx
