Delirium! I've completed my first half marathon this week during my training, despite my 10-day break due to a strained muscle!! What an achievement :) I have run the 21km in less than 2hr:10min, which is not too bad. I'm hoping to improve my time on the next 2 weeks, ready for sponsoring Emergency at the Silverstone event. Pls support and cheers for us :))
Hiyaaaa!! A couple of good news. 1. I now can offer a THANK YOU gift for each donation; you can choose amongst oyster's holders, stickers & brooches. 2. Yep, I'm still running despite this fab London weather, my injuries and all that. Im still going strong ;) SOOOOOOO all I need to now is a little help from you. Silverstone is just round the corner and I'd love to reach my fundraising goal. PRETTY PLEASE ;)
"Every year war and poverty destroy the lives of millions of people around the world. In today’s conflicts, 90% of the victims are civilians." Since 2001 Emergency has treated over 404,000 in Sierra Leone.
Do you remember Blood Diamond? That's the movie wit hunky Leonardo di Caprio playing a diamond smuggler. Good!! So, keep reading as you'll find my cause very interesting.
Emergency is one of the few good things to come out from my country (let's not mention B. please as the elections are coming!!) and I have always believed in them because they are a transparent charity, which actually brings tangible results and save lives around the world: no matter the political view, the difficulties, the challenges, the risks. They're integral to what they do and they take no sh*t from political alliances and the likes. I love Emergency, their work, their ethos and their believes.
This is why I have decided to leave my laziness behind and start running for them (my sofa will miss me!!!). I run the BUPA 10k with EmergencyUK last year and it was such a great experience that I have decided to go the extra mile (that's my humour, yes it is!!) and complete … da, da, da, daaaaa … the half marathon in 2013. Yes, that's right, 21 km are waiting for me at Silverstone… the same circuit where our greatest compatriot Valentino Rossi will run with his Yamaha.
So, going back to Blood Diamond (I have mainly mentioned it to trick you and stick to my page, hehe!). The movie is set in Sierra Leone and if you've seen it, you'll probably better understand why Emergency's presence is VITAL in this country. The recent civil way in the country (fought with machetes, often wielded by child soldiers) caused at least 75,000 deaths, the deliberate mutilation of many more thousands of people, and completely destroyed the country’s health care infrastructure.
Emergency has a programme for war victims in Goderich, a village in the Freetown suburbs, and has built both a surgical centre and a paediatric centre here. Emergency offers the following services at the centres: Emergency and General Surgery, Orthopaedic and Reconstructive Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Cardiac Screening and Follow-up.
Please donate what you can. JustGiving is a safe, fast and quick way to make your contribution to change this world to a better planet (uh smoochy!!!)
