Story

In 2013, male suicide accounted for 78% of all suicides and is the single biggest cause of death in men aged 20 – 45 in England and Wales.

In February 2014- I wrote this letter to my closest friends- James is my twin. This is why I am running 10K for CALM.

Dear friends,

Thank you for your consistent unwavering support. Thank you for listening.Thank you for being there always and being truly great friends- especially over the past 8 months.

This is an article that James has written for a charity called CALM. It helps young men who suffer from depression. He wakes up a different person to the young man he was 6 months ago. I can't describe how good it is to have him back. This wouldn't have been possibly for any of us without love and support from the people around us.

James spoke out and received help from professionals, family, friends and colleagues. Depression is a terrible illness but James is living proof that with great strength and a lot of love you can come out the other side and know that life truly is worth living.

If you think this can help anyone in your life please pass it on. I really love you all- you've brought us through this journey and I will be forever grateful.

Love

Laura

I am running for CALM because they offer support for young men who are down or in crisis and seek to challenge a culture that prevents men from speaking out and asking for help. Every man should know that asking for help is not a sign of weakness-but of strength.

Thank you for your support.
