Story
To raise awareness and funds for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, as a team we will be riding the equivalent in miles from Landsend to John O’Groats. That’s 874 miles over the course of 2 weeks. Please take the time to read this and show your support.
Many people are affected by the disease approximately 300,000 people in the UK in fact. Please see Seema’s story.
My little secret…
So no time like the present to let you all in on my little secret…I have Chrons Disease.
For 10 years I hid my illness from anyone who wasn’t my immediate family. Naively,I always thought people would look at me differently, so no matter how much pain my stomach was in, how sick I felt everyday or how ridiculously fatigued I was, you learn to just keep quiet and carry on.
That mind you, was until I could no longer physically carry on, and countless hospital trips in the middle of the night and two open surgeries later I realised…staying quiet probably wasn’t the best thing after all!
Chrons disease is one of those niggling invisible diseases that slowly takes over your life and quite frankly, leaves you feeling very isolated. Its very difficult to predict when the symptoms will start and once they do take control there isn’t really much you can do to stop them without medical treatment.
Which is why when I heard we were doing this fundraiser for Chrons I was on board straight away. There are an estimated 300,000 people in the UK alone who suffer with Chrons and any money raised goes towards hopefully finding a cure for every one of them or at the least helping to improve living with the disease so it feels a little less like that up hill battle everyday.
So if you are donating, I couldn’t say thank you enough. And even if you're just passing, that’s great too as you're helping to build awareness.
So now I can openly say…hey everyone guess what…I have Chrons Disease ;-)
