5K walk a day for PCOS Sufferers · 18 August 2022

Verity is a self help group set up in 1997 to help women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The charity is completely self funded and is the only national charity for women with PCOS. PCOS affects millions of women in the UK and worldwide (approximately 5-10 per cent) .

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  September is PCOS Awareness month and I would like to do my bit to support a charity that is available to women like me who suffer from Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). I am going to walk 5k everyday in September to raise money towards a charity that not only provides excellent support to sufferers but is also doing everything in their power to push for more research into this condition.

PCOS is a common condition that effects 1 in 10 women in the UK. It manifests differently in each individual and there is no known cause or cure. Some common symptoms are irregular or no periods, difficulty getting pregnant due to the ovaries not working properly, excess hair growth (usually on the face, neck, stomach, back and chest), weight gain, hair loss or hair thinning, oily skin or acne, bladder and bowel issues. These symptoms can often lead to severe mental health issues including anxiety,  depression and suicidal thoughts.

Many women like me have suffered for years before receiving their diagnosis. Doctors have not been well educated with this condition due to the lack of funding towards research. I need your help to raise money that can go towards helping doctors understand what is happening to our bodies, so we can begin living a normal life.

Thank you for your donation, I really appreciate it.
