Story
They say an elephant never forgets - which is a shame in a way, given the abuse and violence far too many face. But the flip side is, they won't forget kindness shown or happy times pottering about in their rescue home with their herd!
Your donation can help make sure those that need it make it to a truly ethical sanctuary, so that elephants in Thailand aren't forced to perform or to give rides to tourists (to make them submissive, pain and cruelty is often inflicted - it also makes them easier to control. Babies are frequently stolen from their Mums too - I know you don't support that!)
It's easy to fall into a trap of thinking tricks or rides are cute, or that they like it, because they're seemingly (human) sociable animals. But the best way for animals to live - like any of us - is free, in their natural environment, with their peeps. To live free is to live, after all.
I wish that Elephant Valley in Thailand didn't (have to) exist. But it does, so I'm happy to support them however possible, until they're no longer needed.
Elephant Valley Thailand is a ground-breaking development for both elephants and tourists. It is a very real example of a sanctuary where tourists can see elephants behaving naturally and freely as part of a herd. It demonstrates that elephant-friendly experiences are possible, without forcing cruel interactions with people.
