Story
I am Walking 10.5 Miles for Abby's Heroes on 28th May 2017.
Abby's Heroes is an amazing charity that offers help and support to children and their families after the harsh reality of a diagnosis of cancer.
Abby's Heroes is especially significant to me because the charity was established in memory of Abby Randall. I have been lucky enough to know Abby, and experience her bubbly and fun personality. From dancing with Abby and her older sister Charlie ever since i can remember, I couldn't think of a more brave and inspiring family to fundraise for.Abby was always an amazingly talented dancer but also was such a fun and positive person to be around. Everyone at our dance school admired Abby during her fight after her diagnosis of Cancer at 8 years old because she continued to bring her positivity with her.
Abby was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, in 2013 aged 8 years and 10 months. During her fight Abby had 23 rounds of chemotherapy, 50 days of radiotherapy, stem cell harvesting, scans, cannulas, drains, intensive care stays and pioneering surgery, to remove the tumour from her clavicle and replace the missing bone with her second toe and main metatarsal from her right foot. In May 2014, Abby was officially declared in remission and spent 6 carefree months getting back to school and back to her beloved dancing. The day after Christmas, 2014, Abby’s cancer returned. Despite a truly awe-inspiring fight she lost her battle on May 29th 2016.
The Piam Brown ward in Southampton cared for Abby during her treatment. The Randall family know first hand the process of a diagnosis of childhood cancer and therefore want to help other families in any way they can to support them whether it is practical help, days out to create memories or some normality with their families , or grants to help bereaved families.
Any amount of financial support big or small will be greatly appreciated. I know any donations will have gone to an amazing charity which has been established by an inspiring family.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
