This is the second year in a row I will be taking part in the Great North Run. Last year I was plagued by injury and short of my leg dropping off at the 9 mile point, I still managed to complete the run in under two hours. Still slightly injured but persevering, I am attempting it again all in the name of our little furry friends at the Newcastle Dog and cat shelter. Having visited the shelter on a number of occasions I have seen first hand the great work that they do in dealing with a huge number of abandoned animals. Unfortunately the charity don't receive government funding so have to rely on donations and money raised from events such as the Great North Run.
