Tough Mudder Yorkshire 2016 · 6 August 2016 ·

Over 1.5 million in the UK have endometriosis and the impact of the disease is for some devastating, yet diagnosis takes on average 8 years. With your donations we are turning this around, raising awareness, providing support and information, supporting research, and campaigning for change.

Story

Hi,

My name is Leanne and I've recently been diagnosed with Endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition which causes cell tissue usually found inside the womb to grow outside of the womb, and attach itself to the body's vital organs, causing extreme pain and in 50% of cases, infertility. This disease affects around 1/10 women in the UK, yet many people have never even heard of it.

Before I became poorly, I registered to participate in Tough Mudder Yorkshire; an 11-mile assault course which sees participants plunged into skips filled with icy water, battling through tunnels filled with menthol 'tear gas' and even electrocuted! (Yes, I know I must be mad).

Although my training regime has taken a bit of a back seat since my diagnosis, I don't want to let it beat me, so I'm determined to get into shape and make it across that muddy finish line.

To help spur me on, I will be raising money for Endometriosis UK, a small independent charity which provides support and resources for women suffering with the disease. You can find out more about the great work they do at: https://www.endometriosis-uk.org/
