Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the UK Police Unity Tour between the 27th July and 29th July 2018, cycling from Humberside Police HQ, Hull to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
We will be covering 180 miles and will be raising money for COPS (Care Of Police Survivors) who help the families of Police Officers killed in the line of duty rebuild their lives. Each Rider will be issued a blue memorial bracelet inscribed with the name and information of a Police Officer who has died in the line of duty. I am proud to say I will be wearing the band bearing my dad's name, Keith Blakelock who was killed in 1985. I was 4 days off my 9th birthday.
He was killed during rioting on the Broadwater Farm Estate, North London. He was protecting firefighters extinguishing a fire. It was whilst protecting this community and his colleagues he was set upon and killed. He is a true Hero.
Whilst never expecting to lose their lives, sadly it does happen. This is where COPS plays such a massive role in the families of these officers.
This charity brings families together and also supports the children of officers who didn't get to go home. This charity was not founded when my family lost my dad, but I wish it had been because the effects of that night stay extremely fresh in the memories of us all.
It is for these reasons I feel this charity is so close to home. The childhood of many children across the country ends when something like this happens as it did for my brothers and I on 6th October 1985. This Charity helps rebuild those lives which will, to an extent, never be the same again.
I am riding this for my Dad.
I am riding this for my mother and brothers.
I am riding this for the entire Police family.
COPS and I would be very grateful if you could sponsor me to help the families of those who have lost their lives doing the job they loved.
Thankyou
Lee
