Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The RAF First Response Team was first set up in 2002. We are a small team of dedicated service and ex service personnel working alongside the South Western ambulance service from RAF St Mawgan.

We operate our own Rapid Response Ambulance provide by the ambulance service to be first on scene to all manner of 999 calls across the county. This can be anything from a person suffering an asthma attack to someone in cardiac arrest or even a road traffic collision.

Our team was designed to cover black spots in the system, helping to cover areas where there may not be ambulance cover, due to the geographical nature of Cornwall the transit time from incident to hospital can be quite long, taking an ambulance out of action for some time. That's where we come in! Covering that gap in the system and making sure an ambulance reaches a person in need as quickly as possible.

However, this is becoming harder and harder to do. With financial strains on the NHS and the ambulance service it is getting harder for them to support our team alone. This has meant a drop in the amount of emergency drivers we have thus Impacting on the hours our team is on the road and the efficiency of our running.

My aim is to raise enough money to be able to continually train enough emergency ambulance drivers to keep the team running in its present role. Also to be able to run more clinical courses to keep the team at a good strength.

This way we will be able to continually serve the people of Cornwall and assist the South Western Ambulance Service in providing top quality clinical care.
