The Yorkshire 3 Peaks · 11 June 2012

We raise funds for all wards and departments at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, enhancing the experience of patients, their families and staff, over and above what NHS funding alone can deliver. Together we can make a real difference to local people when they need it most.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In the early hours of May 17th 2010, my wife Catherine was rushed to hospital in premature labour, 10 weeks early with our twin babies. The staff at Calderdale Royal Hospital spent 12 hours trying unsuccessfully to delay the births, but mother nature was very determined. At 10.56pm Heidi Megan Kimber was born, weighing 3lbs 2oz, followed 2 minutes later by her little brother Noah Stuart Kimber weighing 3lbs 5oz. The 2 tiny little bundles were given treatment in theatre before being rushed out through a side door.

An hour later we got to see our son and daughter for the first time, complete with incubators, drips and wires.

It was 4 days before they could be held, 5 weeks before they could be fed without the use of a tube.

After 6 worrying weeks, with many highs and lows, Heidi and Noah were discharged, still weighing only 5 lbs each, and have since thrived to become carefree, troublesome little 2 year olds! Myself and Catherine will never forget the time that they, and ourselves, spent in SCBU, nor will we forget the work that the staff of the unit do daily to give premamture and poorly babies the chance of a decent future.

On 23rd June 2012 myself and Andrew Naylor will be aiming to walk the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, a 26 mile trek over Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, hopefully in under 12 hours. I'm hoping to raise as much money as possible, in order to help the Calderdale Special Care Baby Unit to help other families put into the same position as ours.
