We Help Destitute International Students to Overcome Impact of the Current Crisis

Story

As salamu Alaikum pray you are keeping well.

During this pandemic period we have lost a generation of gems/elders who were the pillars/leaders of their families & community. We need to revive their great legacies by sowing the seeds for future generations by providing much needed services lacking in our community. With your support, duas and donations we will strive together to help provide the youth motivation to make positive changes to better their lives and make a difference in bringing benefit to society. We will be active in spreading peace, love respect and unity in the community.

Lets face reality: we have a youth crisis and it’s getting worse. We need a plan and we cant call the A-Team. So we’ve scratched our heads, consulted with ulema, community leaders and professionals creating what we have called ‘Workers of Deen’ a project of excellence founded on Islamic Principles. Our vision is ambitious: to create a holistic hive for the youth, a world apart from anything else the community offers, catering their Islamic and social needs. It will be a forward thinking and pro-active project with the best talent and no red tape, open to all ethnic communities. We will run tailored programmes to cater individual needs.

We will be active active in forging good friendships, instilling good character, and love for parents. We will tackle youth disenchantment with social programmes /activities and dedicated services. We will engage in media initiatives to give our community voice. It may seem like a grand plan but we need one, and with your support we can achieve it Insha’Allah. We live it when a plan comes together!

We appeal to you to help us purchase a community bus that will support us in delivering and promoting diversity, inclusivity and accessibility to our service users such as the elderly, disabled and the youth. This bus will help us deliver our services more regularly and at subsidised affordable costs to those it will benefit. We are independently funded organisation that rely on the generosity of our donors and the selflessness of our volunteers. We ask of you to support our unique cause as its something lacking and neglected in the care and concern shown towards its need in our community especially during the challenging times we are living in!

About the charity

Newham Community Project have been operational for over 10 years now, helping the community in various projects over the years. Currently since the pandemic began, over one year ago, we are helping thousands of international students and local residents in and around Newham. The international students have No Recourse to Public Funds and no help from anywhere else and rely solely on Newham Community Project. We run a foodbank which distributes to over 2,500 international students every week with quality essential provisions. We also offer academic support, practical support and delivery for those in isolation, including prescription pick-ups and other necessary deliveries. We help with University issues including fee extensions and payment plans. We help with cv's, personal statements, and interview techniques. We advertise job vacancies and other useful information through groups to help this vulnerable and struggling cohort back into work. We have social integration groups which include women empowerment, Infant Feeding Program, parents groups, and we look after the wellbeing of pregnant ladies and the overall wellbeing of our registered users. We also have a team of trained Mental Health Councilors to help overcome any concerns.
