Midnight Walk 2013 · 8 June 2013 ·

St Leonard’s Hospice is an independent charity, providing care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. We have an In-patient Unit, Sunflower Centre and Hospice@Home service. Our care is free of charge to patients and their families but not free to provide.

Story

Thank you to everyone who donated and wished us luck on the walk. We all completed it and are now aching in places that shouldnt ever hurt haha. We completed the 10 miles in 4 hours. We got to see our kind words and the reason we were walking on the big screen and dad kept with me nagging me to carry on whilst doing it. I love you dad, stay strong :)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am doing the ten mile midnight walk for St Leonards Hospice. In January 2012 my dad had got ill very slowly, forgetting who we were and where he put things. At the end of March we took him to the doctors when they asked if we could get him straight to York District Hospital.

He had all the scans done and we found out the devastating news at the begining of June that he had a brain tumour. On the 7th June he had an operation to try and remove most of the tumour, and it was successful. Later finding out that the tumour was cancerous. He underwent a session of chemotherapy and radiotherapy which he had to travel to Hull for every day. During his break of treatments he had been scanned again. To find out that the tumour had come back again, it was a grade 4 tumour.

Not until recently, he has been going to St Leonards Hospice. He really enjoys going there every Wednesday allowing him to socialise with other people and do some fun activites. I love seeing the smile on his face when he comes back telling me that they gave him two puddings that week.

My mum and I went to St Leonard's coffee morning not so long ago, and I have never felt so warmed and welcome in a place I'd never been in before. It was full of smiling faces, and we got to meet some amazing members of staff who helped my mum and I hugely with the amount of support and care.

To this day my dad has still got the brain tumour and we are just waiting for another scan to see what the next point of action to take is. But if it wasn't for St Leonard's Hospice for asking my dad to go every week he wouldn't have anything to do or to look forward to. The Hospice allows him to still be independant and they come pick him up every Wednesday to take him to the Hospice.
