In early 2008 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was a Grade 1 benign meningioma which I am told is the best brain tumour to get if you are going to get one. However, I had several complications along the way and over the course of the next 3 and a half years had 7 operations and spent over 3 months in Hull Royal Infirmary, which has ultimately left me with part of my skull missing for the rest of my life. Fortunately the MRI scans that I have had since had all shown no re-occurrence of the tumour, which is obviously the main thing.

Since coming out of hospital I have helped to fundraise to support brain tumour research and with the help of family and friends, have raised almost £15,000 for those whose lives are affected by brain tumour far, far more than mine has been. Many of those are sadly no longer with us and that is why I will continue to raise money until some kind of cure can be found for this dreadful illness.
