Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Stacey, Paul and myself (Lesley) are running the Silverstone Half Marathon on March 6th 2011 in memory of my dear Mum who lost her brave fight against cancer in November 2010. She had already survived two cancers but the third one in her lung was to prove too powerful for her to fight. During this last illness she was assigned a Macmillan Nurse, Heather, who was a true support to us. She was at the end of the phone and ready to answer any questions we had. We couldn't have got through such an emotional time without her support and understanding.
Mum knew of our plans to run the half marathon and had she been with us would have come along to cheer us on. It is with sadness and determination that we are running in her memory to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, to help them continue to provide such valuable help, care and support.
My mum always had a great sense of humour and even when told the news of the lung cancer she kept us laughing and smiling even when she felt so ill. We will run this race with her smile and her laugh in our hearts and make something positive come out of our sadness.
March 13th. We all finished the half marathon last week and I must be honest, it is the hardest thing I have ever done. I want to say a big thank you to my wonderful children. Paul who trained with me and encouraged me when I felt so tired. Stacey who sacrificed her finishing time to stay with me the whole of the run, despite it being so cold and me being slow!!! My Mum, their Grandma would be so proud of them, as I am.
The wonderful total of money raised in Mum's memory has made it all worthwhile.
