Story

Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK, with one in three of us suffering from it during our lifetime.

My grandad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February 2012.
Having already had altziemers for 4 years, my family and I believed that this was going to make it considerably more difficult for him to fight it.
Though we were positive, knowing the strong minded and courageous man that he was I was just as sure of him beating it as he was himself.

He was moved from his current care home, into one which speciallised in taking care of patients with cancer and dementia.
Where I would visit him with my mum every day that we could.

He faught extremely strong for the next few months until we were informed that the cancer had progressed and he was unfortunately diagnosed with bone cancer.
This weakened him immensely and we soon found ourselves alongside him in a hospice.
Though this could never knock him mentally, each time I entered his room he would put on a beaming smile almost immediately and often squeeze me hand with his or cheekily stick his toungue out and wink at me!

All too suddenly one day he lost his ability to talk and he could only mumble a word or two. We were told that he had 2 weeks.
I still wouldn't believe it.
He proved everyone wrong and carried on fighting until August 23rd 2012 when he passed away peacefully in his bed.

I want to raise money in every way that I can for Bone Cancer and Prostate Cancer research.
I am going to create small events as soon as possible, such as cake sales at my school to help raise the money.
Next year I will be taking part in race for life and other bigger events to come.
