London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·

We conduct world class medical research projects. We diagnose and treat thousands of people with epilepsy every year. We do this and much more. We are the UK’s national medical epilepsy charity. With Epilepsy Society, you don’t have to deal with epilepsy alone.

Story

On October 2nd I will be joining 40,000 runners as I attempt to run 26.2 miles as part of the 2020 London Marathon. My motivation for taking on this challenge is to raise money and awareness for Epilepsy Society, a charity which strives to help those affected by epilepsy, whether they have the condition themselves or are close to someone with epilepsy.

Epilepsy Society is the UK’s leading provider of epilepsy services and strives to provide everyone affected by epilepsy the best opportunity for a full life - as free from seizures as possible.

More than half a million people in the UK have epilepsy, including my amazing brother-in-law, James, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2012. Since being diagnosed, James' life has been severely affected by the condition. To try and reduce the frequency of his seizures James has tried various combinations of medication, had numerous invasive tests in hospital and, more recently, underwent surgery in Switzerland to remove a part of his brain which was believed to be the source of his epilepsy - A courageous decision which also carried serious risks. Thankfully the operation has had a very positive outcome on James’ condition which has made his epilepsy more manageable to live with.

James is one of the most charming, positive, and caring men I have ever met and I have the utmost admiration for how he has and continues to handle and manage the condition. Epilepsy can have a serious impact on people and their families, affecting all aspects of their lives, however James’ has very bravely tackled his epilepsy through exploring the various options available to him to manage his seizures and never letting the condition prevent him from living his life.

Your donations will go towards cutting edge research, awareness campaigns, information resources and expert care, advice and solutions for people such as James and his wider family who are affected by epilepsy.

Thank you so much for reading and please donate whatever you can, any donations regardless of value will be hugely appreciated and will go towards an extremely worthy charity and cause.

Thank you!

Lewis
