Story

Thanks for taking a look at my page!

I'm running the London 10k in support of the National Childbirth Trust on July 10th - in a fortnight. Now, a run isn't the most extraordinary event and 6 miles 374 yards (imperial units ftw) isn't that long so I thought I'd add a challenge:

A month ago 10k took me about 44 minutes; I should like you to sponsor me to keep cutting this down to <40 minutes over the next two weeks - that is, from 7:05 mins/mile to 6:26 mins/mile. I'm also going cold turkey on cake, sweets, chocolate etc. for the duration. I have an absolute b****** of a sweet tooth so this is harder than the running.

About the charity -

Most of you will know I've taken a year away from university. Since November I've been working with the National Childbirth Trust, an organisation founded in 1956 to educate about childbirth. In the postwar years, very little information was available about pregnancy or childbirth and the risks attached. Childbearing became heavily medicalised and little or no support existed for expectant parents. Thanks to their efforts all of our parents - especially our mothers - have it so much better. But there is still work to done: children are still being born and their parents need antenatal teaching; natural and home births must be campaigned for; Nestlé's life-endangering policies in the Third World must be opposed.

It is likely that you were born with the aid of the NCT. Please aid them now. Anything you can give is thoroughly appreciated.
