We support people living with Addison's to improve their quality of life

Story

Addison’s disease is a rare condition where the adrenal glands cease to function, so that your body no longer produces enough of certain essential hormones, known as steroid hormones.

My beautiful kind dad, has lived with Addison’s disease since he was 21. Although he lived a full and happy life it meant his body struggled to fight off infection. What we did not know is that over the last few months, he was having an adrenal crisis. Leading to his body attacking itself. This resulted in all kinds of infections, and most recently leaving him vulnerable to pneumonia, covid19 and sepsis which became too much for his body to fight. If we and the doctors had a better understanding of Addison’s disease maybe it could have saved his life.

For our family and friends who would like to donate and cannot make the funeral. We have chosen the ‘Addisons Disease Self Help Group’ because it is very close to our hearts, and we want people with this rare disease to be given the support they deserve, so that their families don’t feel the pain that we feel now.

About the charity

Founded in 1984, we're the UK and Ireland charity for all affected by Addison's disease and adrenal insufficiency. We work to support and promote better medical understanding of this rare, life-threatening condition. All donations go to our 'unrestricted' funds, to help us in this vital work.
