The Murch Family Round the Island Yacht Race

Our mother Jane Murch sadly passed away on the 19thDecember 2016 at the age of 88 and was a supporter of Hamble Lifeboat.
She had a great love of the sea and sailing and along with our father took us out and taught us to sail from the time we were born. We were lucky to always have yachts in our family and we have kept yachts in the Hamble River for many years.
She was a huge supporter of the Independent Lifeboat and when we phoned to advise them that she had passed away, they told us that she had been contributing for as long as their records went back.
She made the Hamble her home from about 1986 and was a enthusiastic supporter of all things Hamble. She met and befriended Janet Motherwell, the Lifeboat Secretary and whose father was one of the people instrumental in setting up Hamble Lifeboat in 1968.
My brother Ian and I jointly own a Jeanneau Sun Oddysey 33i called ‘’Myst’’ in which we do a little bit of club racing in and for the last five years have done the Round the Island Race with the only crew being members of our family and our mother being our nominated shore watch, although she would have loved to have joined us if she could. She had four sons, myself, James, Martin & Ian and usually it is a combination of us four, some of our wives, daughters and sons who join us for the race.
The Murch Family crew this year will be David, James, Martin and Ian. David's wife Vivienne, Ian's wife Debs and their son William shall be racing in our mothers memory, commemorating her love of the sea, sailing, the Hamble Village, and in support of one of her favourite causes, The Hamble Lifeboat.
