Story

Howdy folks,

First let me say THANK YOU soo much for even thinking of helping me reach my target for Macmillan.

So here is the sob story to pull at your heart string to get your wallet out.

In 1999 my dad got diagnosed with terminal cancer. The doctor gave him 3months to live. He decided to have treatment so he could see his new grandson have his first christmas. A charity called Cancer backup (which merged with Macmillan in 2008) was there for my family. Their network of support workers helped my dad and my mum through some of the most toughest times.

As a 17 year old I just ran away from it all and hid my head in the sand. I just wanted to things to get sorted. I wasn't there for my mum and didn't discuss things with my dad. I just tried to keep things normal.

My dad fought hard and survived 14 months. He saw his grandson celebrate two Christmas' on the 26th December he was admitted in to hospital and in early Jan 2001 he passed away.

In the years after I started to change my life. I got a proper job (as directed by my dad) and recently I've also lost a fair amount of weight (5stone) and have started to look for exciting challenges that push me to live my life rather then coast along. My dad has really influenced my life as an adult and If I can be half the man he was I'd be super happy.

This BUPA 10K is a perfect example of a challenge I want to get through.

So that's the sob story! So after 10 year I feel I'm more sensible and well rounded fella. I now feel that I should do something to honour my dad's memory and the amazing work Macmillan do.

So please donate and help me reach my target. I'll run hard for you promise.

Cheers Lovers
