BUPA Great North Run 2013 · 15 September 2013 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

Most of you who know my lovely caring dad will most likely know the story about what happened to him in 2008.

Unfortunately my dad admitted him self to hospital as he had horrendous pains in his stomach, he lay in that hospital bed for a week before anyone could put their finger on the problem. One night my mum and I had a phone call at around 12midnight from the hospital to tell us that they were taking him in for an operation. All night he had complaining with a severe sensation that something was going to "burst". Sure enough, they didn't take action until this major problem actually happened. His large intestines exploded, this was down to colitis.

So early that morning my mum and I went into see him, it wasn't until then that we realised how serious this actually was. My dad had to then get all of his large intesteans removed and have an illiostomy  bag attached onto the end of the Bowl outside his body. During the recovery period, my dad became infected with MRSA causing him to become very ill and his body to shut down. It was then necessary for my dad to have 2 blood transfusions as the scar had split. He was then in hospital for a further 11weeks as they tried to fix the problem. This was a horrendous period of time for my mum and I as we weren't sure that each day was getting any better at All.

4 years later, my dad is Bagless and Boweless, but we are going to run this 13mile side by side !!!!!
