Lilly's 60 Miles in a Month

60 Miles in a Month · 31 October 2014
5 Years ago my life changed forever in the blink of an eye. It wasn't a massive dramatic moment like in movies or tv shows. I felt pins and needles in my legs and some back pain one day and then 24 hours later I was paralysed.
NMO isn't common, it only affects 1 in every 100,000 people. And it isn't well known. As such there aren't thousands of people running races for it each year or holding bake sales which is why it's so important to me to raise awareness and do the little I can. Because believe me when I say that that one person in a 100,000 needs your help. The Walton Centre offers support and treatment to people just like me. I am incredibly lucky and I have a supportive family and amazing friends who never once let me think that my illness would stop me doing anything in life and it's thanks to them that I didn't stop pushing and I have regained some use of my legs.
But when something like this happens you need more then love and support. You need time, help, understanding and information.
Your donation will help The Walton Centre keep doing its excellent work, it may pay for medical equipment to help someone learn to walk again or provide a newly paralysed person with someone to talk to when they're struggling.
So I will be using a Medicotech bike, designed for people with spinal injuries and kindly donated for the month by Medicotech, to cycle two miles a day for the month of October to prove that having the right treatment and care can make all the difference in the world.
