Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As a Trustee of Marie Curie I know first hand what a difference the charity can make to people with a terminal illness and also to their families, supporting them through community nursing services and nine hospices across the UK, including two here in Scotland.  My late father benefited from their outpatient care.  In addition to delivering direct care services, they work behind the scenes, as the UK’s largest charitable funder of palliative and end of life care research, providing an Information and Advice Service and seeking to influence policy in the area of end of life care.

I have not yet managed to join any of Marie Curie's organised challenges and was looking to do something to raise funds to mark the charity's 70th anniversary year. I have no ambition to scale Everest but I do like walking, particularly in the Scottish hills, and I am out every day with our dog, Bramble. I came across a blog on the Ordnance Survey website outlining an alternative Three Peaks challenge.

So in 2018, I will be embarking on the challenge of climbing the equivalent height of the three highest mountains in the world in twelve months:

1st Everest – 8848 metres

2nd K2 – 8611 metres

3rd Kangchenjunga – 8586 metres

A total of 26045 metres or 85450 feet.

I will track my progress using the health app on my iPhone and I will give regular updates on my progress.

I hope you will support me by sponsoring me in my Alternative Three Peaks Challenge to raise money so that Marie Curie can care for more people with terminal illnesses, recognising that the need is increasing already as our population ages.  If I reach my fundraising target, that will pay for a day of care in the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh.
