Paris to Geneva Cycle : 23/07/2017 - 28/07/2017 · 23 July 2017

Our vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all and treats people with experience of mental illness fairly, positively and with respect. People who experience mental illness are at the heart of what we do.

Story

In July 2017 I will be swapping my desk and screens for lycra
and pedals to undertake a grueling ride from Paris to Geneva, raising much needed funds for mental healthcare in Jersey.

The route will take me approximately 518 KM in 5 days, pedaling
through the towns of Sens, Semur en Auxois and Lons Le Saunier and up numerous ascents before reaching Geneva on 28th July. This is a huge challenge for me, having never ridden a bike seriously before and two legs part of the Tour De France.

Mental health is a huge problem in Jersey and we all know
someone who suffers or who has suffered at some point in their life. It can affect any one of us and does not discriminate between rich or poor, or by age, gender or social circumstances. It can destroy individuals and families and far too often results in a sufferer ending their life.

All funds raised will be donated to Mind Jersey, an independent
local charity that provides support to people living with mental illness.
Their vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental
health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental illness
fairly, positively and with respect. Although affiliated with Mind in the UK, Mind Jersey retains its independence, both financially and operationally.  All money raised by Mind Jersey stays in Jersey for the benefit of Island residents.  The affiliation ensures that they meet Mind’s quality standards of governance and service delivery, follow best practice models of involving local people in their community – people who have had experience of mental illness – and provide good quality services.
