Story
I feel lucky to have recently spent some time in Indonesia as part of my role at Save the Children. Since the beginning of 2012 I have been plannng Reckitt Benckiser Global Challenge Indoneisa for 61 RB employees from 29 countries. Employees took part in one of two challenges - a trek to the summit of Mount Rinjani on Lombok, or a community project building and rennovating health centres in Bandung District, West Java. Each employee had a fundraising target of £4,000 and have raisd £310,000 in total so far, contributing to a Save the Children project improving health and hygiene to increase newborn survival in Bandung District.
In Indonesia 1 in 23 children do not reach their fifth birthday and half of these deaths occur during the first 28 days of life. Much of this is because of a lack of quality health services and poor hygiene practices.
Global Challenge ended up beng the most challenging while rewarding experience I have had since teaching English in India to the gorgeous ones in in the picture below 15 years ago. Education is important but a healthy start in life is vital.
So when I was offerred a place in the British 10k with just 3 weeks notice and not having run at all in months, I thought this was my opportunity to raise some funds for Save the Children.
Please support me in this challenge...to run 10k but really for Global Challenge and what was achieved for children in Bandung.
Thank you.
