Story

Mountain Squat Challenge for The Children’s Hospice Scotland (CHAS)

Lionel Holmes is a 30 year Military veteran of every major conflict since the Falklands, now living near Aberdeen where he is currently a Police Officer.  He is going to carrying out a Mountain Squat Challenge on the top of Bennachie for 72 hours. The Challenge will take place between midday on Friday 29 November till midday on Monday 3 December 2013.

He will live on the top of Bennachie for 72 hours alone and without shelter, for the Charity, Children’s Hospice Scotland (CHAS).  The Top of Bennachie is 1831 ft. high and the temperature will be just above freezing.

Lionel anticipates this to be quite a challenge, so any donations will keep him warm and cosy on the top of Bennachie.

So, why the Children’s Hospice of Scotland?  The Children’s Hospice Scotland (CHAS) is a charity that provides the only two hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.  CHAS supports over 250 families, as well as a significant number of families who receive bereavement support.  The charity needs £6 million each year to provide these vital hospice support services.

We all expect children to grow up healthy and strong. Sadly though there are hundreds of Scottish families who are living with the knowledge that their child’s life will be short. Caring for a seriously ill child or young person puts extreme demands on a family, physically and emotionally, so CHAS tries to lighten the burden.
