I've been working with the Phoenix Projects in Latin America almost 3 years. Currently, I'm working in Guatemala and Ecuador where we support over 800 children in our two schools in Guatemala and three schools in Ecuador. We have so many plans to develop our projects in Guatemala and Ecuador as they grow and I would love to give you the opportunity of being involved.
The monies raised this challenge will be spent in Guatemala and Ecuador (as outlined below).
Phoenix's objectives for working in Latin America are to provide free, first time and sustainable education for children who would otherwise not have access to education due to economic or social constraints. Through generous donations and support from volunteers and donors we want every child to have the opportunity to further their education as far as they like.
Guatemala
- $24,846 could provide enough food for our 700 school children and their families (that includes their brothers and sisters and their Mum and Dad).
- $310 could pay for a local teacher to join us in our school for a whole year.
- $8,215 could pay for 300 children in Santa Maria to go to national school so they can pass their exams as well as attend our school for re-inforcement all year long.
- $17,813 could provide 300 grandparents in Itzapa and Santa Maria with food and medicinal plants for a whole year.
- $2,617 could pay for a class of 20 secondary school students to go through a year of national school and our extra English support preparing them for the future.
-$394 could pay for a student to go to secondary school for the full three years of education; all the way through to graduation.
Ecuador
All money raised will go towards our nutritious food programme. Phoenix provides each child with a hot meal (vegetables, meat. chicken. fish, beans & rice) and a piece of fruit daily.
For 87 children over the 3 schools that’s over 21,000 pieces of fruit a year.
The annual costs at each school are:
•$ 3,250 at Larcacunga;
•$ 2,250 at Huayrapungo;
•$ 2,900 at Muenala.
