Fishing Cat Trek 2020 · 28 January 2020

The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent is working to help save endangered cats from extinction. Our Four Pillars of Ethos are Welfare, Breeding, Education & Conservation. Housing around 50 wild cats, from the world’s largest, the Amur tiger to the most endangered, the Amur leopard. Open by appointment only.

Story

I absolutely love cats - all cats!  I am incredibly lucky that my day job involves working at The Big Cat Sanctuary (a wild cat centre in Kent  promoting welfare, breeding, conservation & education for the planet’s cats).

Last year I attended a talk on Fishing Cats by Ashwin Naidu (Co-Founder and CEO of the Fishing Cat Conservancy) and was absolutely inspired by the work the FCC are doing to protect these beautiful felines.

Imagine my delight when I was selected to be part of a Conservation Trek to India! At the end of January 2020 I'll be part of a team travelling to a beach conservation project run by the FCC, where I'll be planting mangroves, educating and working with local farmers and schoolchildren and tracking and photographing Fishing Cats.

Like many other rare species, not much is known about fishing cats in the wild, but we do know they are threatened by habitat destruction, poaching, and a general lack of awareness. This is why I want to actively do something to help protect them.

For those of you that know me, you will know how passionate I am about animal welfare and protection and how I believe we all have a duty to do what we can to protect our natural world.
