Story

In September 2010 my life changed forever when my beautiful Alice come into the world I’d had a normal pregnancy no issues but unfortunately things didn’t turn out the way they should and my poor girl came into the world fighting for her life, and has done so ever since.

Alice has severe brain damage that has caused lots of on going issues resulting in needing a tracheotomy , she is also fed through a gastrostomy , wheelchair dependent unfortunately the list is long, but Alice isn’t known for her condition she’s known for her smile !

I met Louise & Les around 4 years ago now when I turned up at a charity function one afternoon it’s safe to say as soon as Les laid eyes on Alice she melted his heart and ever since that moment we became very involved with trewan sands. Myself and also my family & friends became involved with trewan sands, wether it was raising money helping with raffles or just turning up showing our support to the fundraising days, trewan sands and all the people and work they do became a part of our lives we were bowled over with what fantastic work they do.We’ve been treated like royalty with them sent on holidays, and helped with much needed equipment for Alice that the NHS would not supply.

So my personal story Iv always been overweight but I got to a point where I was struggling with Alice and that was the final straw so in June 2019 I decided it was time to take a hold of my life I was fed up of being overweight unhappy and very un healthy so I made a decision that would change my way of life forever.

I had to do something about my weight and quick so in June 2019 I embarked on my weight loss journey I weighted myself each week and found the pounds we’re falling of, by September 2019 I had lost a staggering 3 stone and it was time to join the gym and get fit so slowly but surly with the weight still coming of and the help of my friends I continued to exercise most days and in the back of my mind I thought all I would love to do is actually RUN not far or fast just a few steps and then well a few more steps turned into 1k then into 2k and now.... well I’m running on a regular basis building myself up for my 1st ever challenge which starts on May 2nd 2020  my first official 10k but nope I’m not stopping there my 2nd 10k will be the Manchester 10k on May 24th 2020 .... I’m officially 6& half stone lighter as it stands and I will be able to put on my trewan sands running top with pride for the first time ever and I can actually say I’m running for trewan sands and of course the reason I do it ALICE LILLY BARNES the face of trewan sands I know when I run past that finish line ... or crawl 🤷‍♀️ Alice will be proud of me  x
