About Hearing Dogs:
Imagine living life without your hearing. You can’t hear fire alarms in shops. You can’t hear a smoke alarm when your meal is burning. You can’t hear your baby crying in the night. You feel anxious, tired and incredibly lonely and isolated.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs that help deaf people reconnect with and change deaf people’s lives through emotional and practical support. Please take a look at some of the stories and videos on the website which show what a real difference these gorgeous dogs make:

About me!
Anyone who knows me, knows about Hearing Dogs. It's a charity that is very close to my heart. I have been involved with Hearing Dogs in some capacity for over 20 years of my life. My earliest memory is when my mum signed up as a Volunteer Puppy Trainer, and we went to pick up our first puppy, Jake, a tiny little Lhasa Apso. Since then we've seen at least 100 dogs come through the Meller household, sometimes just for a couple of days, upto a couple of years (one little terrier, still seems to be living with us after 14 years - she didn't quite making the grade for the burgundy coat).
I never dreamed that one day I would be lucky enough to work for Hearing Dogs and get to see first hand the massive difference a hearing dog makes to the life of a deaf person.
As well as this, Hearing Dogs has also changed my life. Two years ago I was partnered with Bella, a gorgeous, golden, Working Cocker Spaniel. She didn't quite suit being a working hearing dog so instead was selected as a Demonstration Dog. This means her job is to go along to events to meet and greet people and also do demonstrations of soundwork (alerting to various sounds in the household). She absolutely loves her job because she gets lots of cuddles and treats!
In the two years since having Bella I have learnt so much about dog behaviour and training, with incredible support from the talented dog trainers. Not only this, she has got me moving. Getting outside and walking. Something I knew I liked to do.....but never did. Having a dog, you don't really have a choice!
For this reason I want to give something back, this challenge seemed the perfect option. I have decided to take part in the quarter challenge - 25km (which is really far for me!!) walking from Chale and finishing at The Needles. I am hoping that Bella will be able to join me for the latter half.
I would really appreciate ANY support you can give me and help my smash my target of £245.
Lisa (and Bella Meller) xx
