Lisa and Gill take on Vienna to Budapest cycle

Vienna to Budapest · 24 September 2022
It’s over three years since our son/grandson had his life saving, life changing kidney transplant. Prior to this he had to undergo hours of dialysis a week, and has had countless operations, tests and hospital stays due to infections!
We hope that his dads kidney will last him many many years to come but the reality is that a transplant is a treatment and not a cure, he may need another one or 3 in his lifetime! Which is why we will always continue to fight for our boy and raise money for Kidneys for Life.
Kidneys for Life raises money for research into kidney disease, transplantation, dialysis and related disease affecting the kidney; direct patient amenities for renal and transplant patients not usually funded; supports education of the renal multi-disciplinary team and patients; support for conferences & workshops relating to kidney disease and the purchase of medical equipment. As well as this they also fund a children’s team for the British transplant games which offers families the chance to get together and celebrate the gift of life
So we have decided to sign up for the Vienna to Budapest cycling challenge! We’ll be cycling approx 230 miles through Austria, Slovakia and Hungary before finishing in Budapest.
This challenge is huge for us, we have never cycled long distances and don’t like cycling on roads! Gill will be 65 when we take on this challenge so the training and getting herself fit enough to go will be a huge commitment for her.
Lisa was originally due to cycle Vietnam to Cambodia but due to multiple postponements due to covid the decision was taken to cancel it therefore the funds already raised will be transferred to this ride.
Rory is our fighter, our inspiration, our warrior, our hero! We want to show him that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to! So if we ever wonder why we’re doing this, why we talked ourselves into taking on this challenge all we need to do is give Rory a big hug.
