We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

My sister Lisa had been a type 1 diabetic since she was diagnosed at 14 years old. Through her teenage years, she had to come to terms with constantly monitoring her blood glucose level, and managing a complex chronic disease.

Anyone that knew my sister knew that she tried her very best with it, but she had so many obstacles to overcome on her own personal journey in trying to achieve good health.

Lisa was only 27 when she tragically passed away due to a severe attack of diabetic ketoacidosis, which very importantly is preventable if recognised early enough. We plan to fundraise towards research and awareness of type 1 diabetes, with all its life-threatening complications and help educate that it’s not just a condition which means you can’t eat sugar.

In her memory, this page has been set up to raise money for Diabetes UK. Lisa was already hoping to get involved with this charity before she passed away so suddenly. Part of the research that is being conducted is into a cure to this horrible disease and to help find new medications that will help type 1 diabetics with their daily struggle.

Trying to be the best diabetic ever was on Lisa’s new year resolution list. She always tried to eat the right food, keep fit and keep a log of her blood sugar. She loved life, she loved her friends and we all know she loved diet coke.

We want to keep Lisa’s memory alive, try to make a difference for future diabetic patients and make sure her short life makes a big difference to lives of many more to come.
