Story
I ran the London Marathon in April 2011 in aid of Sam Beare Hospice, Weybridge in memory of my husband Ian, a fabulous husband, friend and a wonderful bloke. It was a hot day, but thoughts of Ian and raising lots of money for the hospice got me round...along with a bit of training of course! It was a huge relief when I crossed the finish line!
Thanks to the support of my wonderful family, friends and colleagues, I have well exceeded by original target. A huge thank you to you all. Donations have continued to come in throughout the year, which is fabulous and hugely appreciated.
Ian was diagnosed with a rare and agressive cancer in September 2007 and died a few months later on Christmas eve aged 37. It was Ian's wish that any donations in his memory should go to the hospice and over the last four years, our wonderful family, friends and colleagues have made sure that we have done just that.
Sam Beare Hospice were able to support us during Ian's illness. Francis the Macmillan Nurse visited us at home and in the final two weeks of Ian's life we were grateful that we could get Ian out the busy and noisy hospital environment and into the hospice where he had his own room and a much more comfortable environment. Our family could visit at any time and the staff who were all lovely, made every effort to try and make him more comfortable. I also received excellent support from Aleen in the counselling team following Ian's death.
The money raised will help to ensure that future patients and families can benefit from being helped by Sam Beare like Ian and I and our family did.
Thank you in advance for your support. Lisa x
