Story
When I was 17 years old, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with a glioma - a type of brain tumour. I've only ever told my close friends and family about this, and their support has been non-stop amazing. To most people reading this, especially those of you that are good friends with me, this will be a shock for you as I know I may seem quite normal... well my health anyway. I've never felt the need to tell anyone because in my eyes I still feel fit as a fiddle and I'm still winning at life!!! I'm at university, playing sport and being with the people I love. The disease won't stop me from being who I am - I will live the life I can. I found writing about this quite difficult, as I don't want people to change their perception of me - as even though I have this alien thing, I'm still that same person who's up for a laugh!
Brain tumours are the biggest cancerous killer for under 40's and children. The brain tumour charity helps to raise awareness and funds for brain tumour's as there is a lack of government funds provided towards defeating one of the most challenging cancers. Research within this field is highly dependent on donations from the generosity of the public.I am joining my friends and family to raise money for this cause, whilst other family members are also raising money for Addensbrookes Charity Trust in aid of raising money for a florescence microscope which will help a variety of patients suffering from neurological conditions. Whilst the condition is acting on me, we've decided its time to act on it and help millions of others fight this cause
Consequently, I will be joining many others to run the Leeds half Marathon on 10th May with my boyfriend Tom, and friend Grace as well as aiming to do the 3 peak challenge on 22nd June within 24 hours with family and friends.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you can join 'Team Lissie' by donating to this cause. xxx
