..Our Aim is to give every child & young person (0-25) that has been given a cancer diagnoses in Uk & Ireland a FREE Bandana. Bandanas for the Brave is a Charity that has been set up after my own son lost his hair, when going through a long course of chemotherapy, for his Brain tumour in 2010.

Story

RUpdate - 13/8/2020As my Sao Paulo marathon was cancelled, and also my New York and Vietnam marathons not happening this year I'm having to make a decision. Rather than close the fundrasier, I would rather push on and try to get my target. I have yet to fail to meet a fundraising target and I don't plan on it doing it now! For me, no fundraiser is complete without a challenge.

Covid permitting, I will be taking to the skies for my 3rd skydive at the end of September.

So come on people lets help me get this ball rolling again for this fantastic grassroots charity who provide free bandanna for kids with cancer that lose their hair!

I left my job as a staff nurse on Elephant ward (oncology) at the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in August to come back packing in South America. Since then I have learned that 5 kids from the ward have passed, one of them sadly being Isabel Tyler (9 years old), fondly known as 'Izzy'. She was Harry Potter crazy, loved arts and crafts among many other things. Above all she was a fighter - she fought me and every other nurse when it came to medication time but she was never rude - she was a sweat heart through and through.

As with anyone suffering cancer and undergoing chemotherapy hair loss is a terrible side effect, especially for a young girl. Izzy was well known for always having a lovely, colourful bandanna when attending  the ward. I recently learned that these bandannas were actually provided by an organisation in Belfast for FREE to children dealing with cancer called 'Bandannas For The Brave' (link below) . As an organisation who reply solely on donations I have decided to try and raise a few pound for them in memory of little Izzy.

On a personal note I ran my last marathon in December 2018 which I only managed 13 miles. At the time of writing I have been working and partying as a bar manager in Peru for the last 2 months, With the marathon only 7 weeks away and having not run for months, I am under no illusion that this will be a difficult task. BUT I can take inspiration from having seen how Izzy and the other kids fought on the ward during my time there. I've tried to keep this short but hopefully you too can be inspired to donate a few pound! Trust me - this is for a REAL CAUSE that has a REAL IMPACT!

Marty Out! :D :D :D
