BOOTLE Cemetery's baby memorial garden is to undergo refurbishment.
The project is being led by Chyrell Frost, co-founder of Liverpool SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal Death Society), who is dedicated to making it a special place for bereaved families.
“The toys and teddies that have been left for the babies are worn and wet due to the weather. We would just love to make the garden a beautiful place for families to sit and remember their children.
“There are so many babies buried in Bootle Cemetery, so we would like to let families know we are refurbishing the garden and if they would like to come and help they are very welcome.”
Chyrell founded Liverpool SANDS with her husband Steven and friend Debs Crawley after losing two baby girls in 2005.
She explained: “I was taken to the Snowdrop Room in Arrowe Park Hospital after the girls passed, which is a room set up by SANDS.
“I had no support and didn't know who to turn to so I went on a training course to become a 'befriender', someone who can offer support to bereaved families. I then set up Liverpool SANDS.”
The group has been active for over two years and holds fundraising and awareness events to support families who have lost children.
Work is due to begin as soon as the families of the children remembered there have been contacted.
