Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our William's Fund Parachute jump Just Giving page.
Jack and I will be completing separate tandem parachute jumps in aid of William's Fund. For me this is definitely leaving my comfort zone in an extreme way so I would love you to show your support by sponsoring my endeavour as generously as you feel able. Jack is currently exhibiting the 'Walk in the park' attitude... but let's see what the day brings.
Jack was at school with Edward, William's older brother and so witnessed William's story first hand, here is a summary of William's Life...
William Dodd was only 2 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer, it was given various names but we never found out the exact type of cancer William had… all we know is that he had every treatment he could have. We were lucky that our Oncologists had experience and contacts in the USA and we know that expertise was sought from all the major oncology centres; however nobody could help because no one knew exactly what the tumour was. Something many people do not know is that the key to treatment of cancer, especially childhood cancer, lies in the diagnosis, without that; the prognosis is poor. Childhood cancers behave in a very different way to adult cancers; they respond differently to treatment and can be unpredictable in both positive and negative ways.William’s Fund was established in February 2001 in memory of William, who died on December 12th 2000 at the age of 4 years and 9 months. William amazed everyone at how he coped, always smiling with a twinkle in his eye that won so many hearts. Since William died, we have raised over £700,000 for The Childhood Cancer Research Fund* William would have been 19 on 13th March 2015...we hope he would be proud of what has been achieved in his name.
There are of course many big charities concerned with cancer but most are focused on adult forms and this may not help the children.
All your money goes directly to the Childhood Cancer Research Fund which is under the umbrella of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds...
The William Dodd Foundation research post is run by Dr Helen Townley & Dr Karl Morten following the retirement of Dr Mitchell. They are conducting ground breaking research into Childhood Cancers. For more information on William's Fund and the research please see our website and our facebook page.
