At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Almost 10 years ago Lizzie and Izzi met on their first day at Cardiff University when they were lucky enough to be placed in the same flat in halls and so, the saga began! Three years of living our best university life ensued with stories of heels, falls and broken noses as well as endless library hours and watching Desperate Housewives.
After we had graduated, our lives were separated by distance as Izzi headed off on ships and Lizzie was back in Brighton but the space between us never changed the bond we had formed.

There were tough times ahead as Lizzie lost her Dad in 2013 and Izzi's Dad was diagnosed with cancer, but still we carried on. However, Lizzie and The Savages suffered further loss when their lovely Mum Caroline was diagnosed with Dementia in 2015 and started to fade away from her former self.
In February 2018, this terrible disease took Caroline from us, far too soon. She is truly missed every single day. To continue on from this life-changing event has been an uphill struggle for Lizzie, the Savage family and all who knew her.

Why are we embarking on a challenge? We are doing this to remember Caroline, to increase awareness of Dementia and it's impact, to raise money to support the Alzheimer's Society and the vital work work that they do, to celebrate ten years of friendship and being LizzieAndIzzi and hopefully to provide Caroline with a lot of entertainment as she watches us from above attempt to do this.

We are ditching the skyscraper heels and cheap vodka for our walking boots and re-hydration sachets as we take on the Peak District Challenge. We will be walking 100km in 24/48 hours around the beautiful Peaks, quite literally up hill and down dale, as we scale an elevation of 2450 meters and down again.
To put the distance into perspective that is 62.1 miles or the equivalent of a marathon... plus another marathon... and another 10 miles. That is the same as walking from Sheffield to Birmingham, from Cheltenham to London or Brighton to Canterbury. A mega challenge by anyone's standards! We will be training hard and nursing our blisters, but it will all be worth it for such an incredible cause.

Your support will make all the difference. Please support us as the Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
