South Sudan is currently experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. 5 years of civil war has led to approximately 4.3 million people displaced, 1.4 million of which are currently displaced within South Sudan. In June, after fighting broke out between Government and opposition forces, four Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps -under the control of HART's partner- received an influx of IDPs seeking refuge, emergency food provisions and basic education for children. Upon arrival, IDPs told HART's partner that government soldiers had forced them to flee after they began beating civilians, burning down their homes and looting their villages.
When HART staff visited the area in January 2018, the needs of the people were overwhelming, with 80 new families having arrived at the Cathedral IDP camp that week.
As an example of where your donations go, for £13 you can provide a family of 5 with enough beans, grain and cooking oil for one week.
With more arrivals each week, we would greatly appreciate any donations that you can make. Thanks for reading!
