UPDATE: 22nd February 2010
All fifteen of us have made it to Brighton! The journey was long and tough but pure determination pull us through the day and the night. :D
We averaged 9.4mph and rode for six and a half hours, which isn't bad at all since there was a huge variation in cycling fitness within the group. Strong teamwork ensured no one was left behind and we all stuck together.
More importantly, donations can still be made - we will send off the money once the target amount has been raised so it's not too late!
Thank you.

Hi,
We are a group of
students 15-18 organising a sponsored cycle 60 miles from
to Brighton in order to raise money for the tragedy in , which
left 1.5 million people homeless. We need to put a stop to the rising death
toll which has recently hit 110,000 people.
We are planning to do
this cycle on 20th February 2010, and we want to raise as much as we can for .
Together, we can make a real difference! Every penny counts. Please
sponsor us if you can and all money will go to the Disaster Emergency Committee
(DEC).
Thanks so much,
Rolphy

DEC Latest Appeal:
A
devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake has hit ,
including the densely populated capital
and the surrounding area. Although there is as yet no accurate assessment of
the death toll it is clear that millions of people live in the affected area. is the
poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the risk that
people will suffer or die in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Communications have been
severely disrupted and many roads are blocked with rubble. Despite the
challenges, many DEC member agencies are already helping on the ground while
others are preparing to do so. Very substantial humanitarian assistance will be
required to ensure survivors get food, clean water, emergency shelter, medical
care and other support-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students attempt London to Brighton ride for Haiti relief
Thursday, 11 February 2010
Life cycle: Rolphy Morrell, Prasana Uthayakumar and Byron Morrell are in a team hoping to raise £5,000 for Haiti relief
A
GROUP of teenagers are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the aid
effort in Haiti by embarking on a gruelling cycle ride from London to
Brighton.
The team of 14 teenagers, most of whom are studying at Queen
Elizabeth’s School in Barnet, are hoping to set off on the 70-mile ride
next Saturday.
In the run-up to the challenge, the team is attempting to raise at
least £5,000 for the victims of the Haiti earthquake which will then be
donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
The group have been inspired to make the journey after seeing the fundraising efforts of Charlie Simpson in the news.
The seven-year-old from west London hit the headlines after his
five-mile bike ride around his local park in Fulham resulted in more
than £160,000 being raised for the Haiti appeal.
Queen Elizabeth’s School pupil Rolphy Morrell, 16, who is taking
part in the ride, said: “There’s 14 of us going and most of us are from
this school. The plans is to ride to Brighton and raise as much money
as we can for the Haiti appeal.
“We’ve got a small cycling crew and we cycle most weeks together.
If we could we would go out there and help, but this is the one thing
that we can do. We want to donate the money to the DEC, which then
passes the money on to all sorts
of charities.
“It’s going to be quite a challenge but we’re going to Richmond
Park this week for some training. We read the articles on Charlie
Simpson and thought we should do something like he’s done. He is a real
inspiration.”
